At Carnegie Mellon University Libraries, we celebrate the many contributions of the faculty and staff who make the Libraries the destination for scholarly information, creative inquiry, and intellectual collaboration across disciplines, propelling the significance, reach, and impact of the university.
Associate Dean for Research and Innovation Brian Mathews provided a webinar for JoVE's thought-leader series titled “The Scaffolding of Discovery: how libraries can empower STEM research,” talking about knowledge management and how libraries can engage with interdisciplinary STEM research.
Associate Dean for Faculty and Principal Librarian Matt Marsteller presented a professional paper (on work done with Engineering Librarian Haoyong Lan) entitled "Finessing the Introductory Standards Workshop: Efforts Toward Active Learning" at the 2024 ASEE North Central Section Conference in Kalamazoo, MI on 23 March 2024.
Art and Design Librarian Jill Chisnell and Architecture Librarian Lynn Kawaratani served on the Conference Planning Advisory Committee as co-chairs of the Local Arrangements Subcommittee for the 52nd annual conference of the Art Libraries Society of North America (ARLIS/NA) in Pittsburgh. The conference took place April 2-5.
Kawaratani also designed the conference logo which incorporated the 2024 theme, “POP!”
Chisnell also co-facilitated the April 2 workshop, "Imagination in Action: A Workshop on Cultivating Creativity" at ARLIS 2024. She led three 10-minute creativity sprints — "The Last Hurrah," "Use Your Words," and "Make Bad Art") — which focused on creative reuse of ephemeral print and media collections.
Additionally, she presented a five-minute artist talk about her jarchives, curated and cataloged collections of found objects in jars during the session, "Play/Work: Pop-Up Artist Talks with SCIP SIG" on April 4.
English/Drama Liaison Librarian Ashley Werlinich and Entrepreneurship Librarian Jimmy McKee presented a poster on the Arts x Entrepreneurship program at ARLIS 2024. The poster was titled “ARTS X ESHIP X UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES: Lowering Access Barriers and Fostering Student Success Through an Arts Entrepreneurship Pilot Program at Carnegie Mellon University.”
