Associate Director for Creative Heidi Wiren Kébé was a selected presenter and panelist for the Annual Meeting of the American Studies Association (ASA) in November 2024. She presented “Rituals for Rock Ancestors: Performing Community Upriver” on Friday, November 15 with Jen Shook, Assistant Professor of Theatre, Dance, & Performance Studies at Grinnell College. This multimedia performance presentation shares the process of making relations among humans and more-than-humans, grounded in a very particular place across vastly different perspectives and times. Attendees will then be led through creative cartography exercises reflecting on community, place, and time.
Program Director for Research Information Management Services Jason Glenn gave two presentations at the Figshare and Symplectic UK & EMEA User Conference, titled “KiltHub @ Carnegie Mellon: A comprehensive figshare repository” and “Lessons learned from implementing Symplectic Elements at Carnegie Mellon.”
Director of the Library at CMU in Qatar Tatiana Usova was invited as a speaker at the panel "Looking to the Future — Academic Libraries" during the inaugural Dubai International Library Conference 2024 (DILC 2024). This significant event for the Middle East and North Africa region was held from November 15th to 17th, 2024, and featured over 60 distinguished speakers from more than 25 countries.
Usova, along with Dr. Joan Murumba from Texas A&M, also offered a professional development session for early career library professionals in Kenya. More information can be found in this webinar recap.
STEM Librarian Huajin Wang attended the UK Reproducibility Network Advisory Committee annual in-person meeting to discuss UKRN’s priorities in the coming year, especially, to ensure Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) are embedded in UKRN’s policies, practices, and initiatives as we promote open and reproducible research. Subsequently, Wang gave a presentation at King’s College London, attended by several UKRN member institutions, to promote the Open Science program at CMU, and exchanged experiences and ideas with participants about open science outreach, assessment, and research support at the intersection of open science and AI.
Head of Resource and Discovery Services Kimberly Dolan and Web & Applications Developer Jonathan Kiritharan graduated from the CMULead program, which fosters professional development for current and potential leaders, creating avenues for interaction and learning with leaders from across campus to share best practices, transfer institutional knowledge, and encourage mentorship and partnership as core values.
