At Carnegie Mellon University Libraries, we celebrate the many contributions of the faculty and staff who make the Libraries the destination for scholarly information, creative inquiry, and intellectual collaboration across disciplines, propelling the significance, reach, and impact of the university.

On May 20th, STEM Librarian and Director of the Open Science Program Melanie Gainey, Associate Dean for Academic Engagement Nicky Agate, and Associate Dean for Digital Infrastructure Sayeed Choudhury participated in a virtual roundtable discussion on supporting open science called OSF Institutions Case Study: Collaborating on Open Science at Carnegie Mellon University. The event was hosted by the Center for Open Science. A video of the discussion is available to view.


Melanie Gainey and Sarah YoungGainey and Social Sciences Librarian Sarah Young are co-authors on a publication in PLOS ONE titled "Exploratory mapping of tumor associated macrophage nanoparticle article abstracts using an eLDA topic modeling machine learning approach". This work is in collaboration with CIT faculty, Elizabeth Wayne (now at University of Washington) and John Kitchin.

On May 16th, Gainey was a panelist in a virtual discussion on Librarian Support for Using AI in STEM Research. The event was hosted by the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) Science & Technology Section.

Gainey was a panelist on a roundtable called "Open Science Conversations: Academic Library Engagement, Outreach & Services in the Year of Open Science" at the American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference in San Diego in June.


Ryan SplendaBusiness and Entrepreneurship Librarian Ryan Splenda co-presented at the ConnectUR (Council on Undergraduate Research) 2024 Annual Conference with Richelle Bernazzoli (CMU Office of Undergraduate Research & Scholar Development) and Kim Piatt (Dietrich College). Their presentation was titled "Students as Partners in Research: Using Evidence Synthesis Projects to Innovate on Mentored UR Models."


Brian Mathews and Joelle PittsAssociate Dean for Research and Innovation Brian Mathews and Senior Associate Dean Joelle Pitts presented at the CALM Conference: Funding Futures: Cultivating Effective Grant Practices for Today’s Library Managers.
