Alfredo González-Espinoza

I was born in Mexico City and grew up in the “city of the eternal spring,” Cuernavaca, Morelos, just about 40 minutes away. I hold a BSc in Chemistry, an MSc, and a PhD in Sciences (Physics and Complex Systems). After completing my PhD, I worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the National Institute of Genomic Medicine in Mexico City. In 2019, I moved to Philadelphia to start a postdoctoral position in the Department of Biology at the University of Pennsylvania, where I collaborated with Prof. Joshua B. Plotkin on cultural evolution, particularly focusing on topics related to music. At CMU Libraries, I bring my interdisciplinary background and expertise in processing and analyzing data of various types to provide data management support and assistance to the whole CMU community.

Outside of academia, I am an amateur cellist and enjoy playing soccer and video games. Currently, my partner and I are campaigning in Baldur’s Gate III (again). I also enjoy attending concerts and going to bars with live music. One of my favorite composers is J.S. Bach, and one of my favorite bands is Panzerballett.
