Workshops and training opportunities at the Libraries offer numerous opportunities to connect with resources to support your teaching, learning and research needs.
Workshops
Have you ever wanted to learn a skill, but haven’t found the time? Interested to learn more about library resources, straight from a librarian? The Libraries' workshops – which are offered by the Libraries each semester on a variety of topics – are designed to help attendees learn a new skill, deepen their understanding of a specific topic, or gain exposure to an unfamiliar technology, tool, or technique.
All workshops are available at no charge and are open to Carnegie Mellon University students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends. Seating is limited and registration is required.
If you’re not able to attend a specific workshop, but would like to learn more about the topic, please feel welcome to contact us. Librarians and subject specialists are also available to schedule additional workshops for classes, or facilitate one on one meetings.

Carpentries Workshops
Software Carpentry is a non-profit organization that teaches basic computing skills to researchers. Workshops are designed for attendees that want to learn foundational computing skills, including automation of workflows, version control of code and files, and basic programming in Python or R. The workshops are hands-on and interactive, with an emphasis on building practical skills and confidence to learn more programming.

Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) Training
Carnegie Mellon University is committed to maintaining the integrity fundamental to research activities through the responsible and ethical conduct of its faculty, staff, and students. The Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) is a widely accepted set of ethical principles and professional standards for conducting research in the university community.
To further this commitment, CMU Libraries and the Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) provide a variety of Responsible Conduct of Research seminars on topics relevant to research ethics as part of the Libraries' workshop offerings each semester. RCR applies to all fields of research, and attendance is encouraged from all academic and research units. CMU is dedicated to the highest quality education for all students and scholars, and RCR instruction is essential to producing the best scientists and researchers for the future.
