Developed by the non-profit, Center for Open Science, Open Science Framework (OSF), is an open source research management platform that supports reproducible and open research.
Getting Started
- The Libraries' institutional license for OSF allows researchers to use Shibboleth Single Sign-On to access their accounts with their Andrew IDs. A public landing page for OSF at CMU will showcase public projects from CMU researchers.
- Use your CMU email address to create an account and sync third party applications to it.
- If you already have an OSF account with a non-CMU email address, you can add your CMU email address to your existing account to benefit from our institutional license.
- Please note that OSF, or third party applications synced to OSF, cannot be used to store HIPAA or other sensitive types of data. Learn more in the Terms of Use.

OSF empowers researchers by:
- Facilitating discovery: Search for publicly available papers, data, and materials to inspire your research and find collaborators.
- Supporting project management: Design your study, add collaborators, and control access permissions for all project components.
- Enabling flexible data storage: Store data in OSF Storage or connect to external platforms like Google Drive or GitHub.
- Supporting open access publishing: Publish and share your research publicly through OSF Preprints or Registrations.
- Ensuring findability: Each file receives a unique, persistent URL for easy citation, sharing, and tracking research impact through metrics. You can also assign projects a permanent Digital Object Identifier (DOI).
