Andrew Meade McGee, is the Libraries’ CLIR Postdoctoral Fellow in the History of Science and Computing. He also holds a courtesy visiting assistant professor appointment in the Department of History. An historian by training, he specializes in the political, cultural, technology, and business history of the twentieth century United States, with a particular focus on the history of the information society. He is currently working on his first book manuscript, "Mainframing America," a political history of the computer in the United States from the 1940s to the 1980s.
In this interview, McGee discusses the HOST @ CMU group, their recent event to recognize the first computer on campus, and their future efforts to explore and preserve the history of computing on the CMU campus.
