New Course Teaches Core Skills at Carnegie Mellon

Carnegie Mellon University has introduced a new course, Core@CMU, that helps undergraduates develop the skills that serve as a foundation for their education at the university. The course is a 3-unit, semester-long requirement for all undergraduates. It is asynchronous and can be completed entirely online, allowing for flexibility and ease of access.

Meet the 2024–2025 Libraries Student Advisory Council

This fall, the newest cohort of the Libraries Student Advisory Council (LSAC) has begun meeting to expand opportunities for communication between the Libraries and the CMU student body. A team of undergraduate and graduate students from across campus will partner with the University Archives, focusing on documenting student life and the importance of preserving present-day CMU history by collecting key materials from a variety of student organizations.

Libraries Celebrates Student Publications with Exhibit, Forum

On September 3, a new pop-up exhibit opened on the fourth floor of Hunt Library to celebrate the history and innovation of student publications across CMU. “EXTRA! EXTRA! Student Publications Through the Years” features 31 issues and covers created by students, including both contemporary publications and historic publications provided by the University Archives.

“Constitution Day 2024: DIY Postcards for a Stronger Democracy” Photo Gallery

On September 17, members of the CMU community gathered in the Sustainability Studio of Hunt Library to celebrate Constitution Day with a hands-on DIY workshop. Attendees designed and crafted postcards to be shared with friends, family, and peers to encourage them to get to the ballot box on Election Day.

How RIMS Helped a Fulbright Scholar Secure Grant

At the University Libraries, Research and Information Management Services (RIMS) brings together information about scholarship, creative practices, and funded research endeavors, as well as teaching, service, awards, and leadership accomplishments, throughout Carnegie Mellon. The RIMS team, led by Program Director Jason Glenn, is leading the effort to compile faculty information, simplify assessment and documentation, and streamline collaboration across different departments and disciplines.
