At the University Libraries, more than 30 students are part of the team that keeps facilities open and services available for the CMU community. These students staff the circulation desks at both Hunt and Sorrells libraries, serve as Stacks Assistants, assist the University Archives and the Sustainability Initiative with processing collections and engaging in outreach, and more.
Please join us in celebrating some of the talented interns on our team.
University Archives Intern Jackie Ruhnke is a senior studying business administration in the Tepper School of Business, with an additional major in social and political history.
As University Archives Intern, Jackie fulfills reference requests, updates collections at various stages, and assists with the execution of community-facing events. Collections Archivist Emily Davis, Community Collections Processing Archivist Crystal Johnson, and Robotics Project Interim Lead Archivist Kathleen Donahoe, who mentor Jackie, empower her to work both independently and collaboratively to support archival programming, operations, and special projects. She loves maintaining CMU history to be used by researchers and enjoyed by the community for years to come.
“Carnegie Mellon and all its various stakeholders and community members have such a rich history. Whether you have a specific research question or just want to see something cool, our archives have so much to offer. You can also just email me to see what I am working on. :)”
Stop by the Archives during the University Archives Drop-In Hours on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Tepper first-year Ameena George, who is studying business administration and environmental and sustainability studies, is a new addition to the Sustainability Initiative team this semester.
As an intern for the Sustainability Initiative, she is working to build her own student outreach project to create relationships between the Sustainability Initiative and student organizations. She wants to inspire members of the community to carry the Global Goal framework into the rest of their lives, beyond their time at CMU, to understand how they impact the world around them.
“The Sustainability Initiative to me means working to bring understanding of the intersection between social, economic, and environmental sustainability to our campus. The most exciting and valuable aspect of the Sustainability Initiative is its opportunities to learn and understand the world and your role in it in a different light.”
You can connect with Ameena on Wednesdays from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. in the Sustainability Studio located on the first floor of Hunt Library.
