Current students, faculty and staff, alumni, and guests gathered in IDeATe Studio A during Spring Carnival at “IDeATe Open Studios” to learn more about interdisciplinary student projects and unique immersive course events.
IDeATe, the Integrative Design, Arts, and Technology network at Carnegie Mellon, welcomes undergraduate students from every discipline to the unique learning environment at the nexus of technology and creativity. It offers 10 undergraduate minors: Game Design, Animation & Special Effects, Media Design, Sonic Arts, Design for Learning, Innovation & Entrepreneurship, Intelligent Environments, Physical Computing, Soft Technologies, and Immersive Technologies in Arts & Culture. The program is a part of Helen and Henry Posner, Jr. Dean of the University Libraries Keith Webster’s portfolio.
At the event, held April 12, visitors learned more about soft technologies, physical computing, sonic arts, and game design opportunities for undergraduates on campus from IDeATe Assistant Dean Kelly Delaney and Academic Coordinator Ryan M. McKelvey. They were able to playtest new video games and step inside VR experiences. Participants were also invited to attend a brief guided tour through IDeATe’s collaborative workspaces in the basement of Hunt Library.
