New Book in Special Collections: Spenser’s The Faerie Queen in a 1611 Collected Works

Lownes had many unsold copies of his first folio edition (1609) ‘Faerie Queen.’ Instead of reprinting the epic, he compiled a collected edition using the left over sheets with a new title page and dedicatory leaf. The earliest 1611 issue of the collected works did not include the satire “Mother Hubberd’s Tale.”
